SEO: Why it’s Important and Tips for Improvement

Are you trying to improve website traffic, but aren’t sure where to start? Search engine optimization (SEO) might be the answer. SEO is the process of improving a website’s visibility and ranking in search engine results from pages (SERPs). When done correctly, SEO can help your website attract more visitors from all over the world. In this blog post, we will discuss why SEO is important and provide tips for improvement. Let’s get started!

Importance of SEO

One of the biggest questions that many people have, especially businesses who are just getting into the online space is “what is the importance of SEO and why does it matter?”. Admittedly, if you have never heard of search engine optimization before, you might get lost in what it means as well as the benefits of practicing good search engine optimization tactics.

The primary reason search engine optimization is so important is that it helps you be visible during each stage of the consumer’s buying process. To give you a quick example, if someone were to search for vehicles in general, and your site has a good ranking, it would be one of the top results. If they were to continue their research to find out what other differences between certain vehicles, your website would be listed amongst the first few results. If your company sold vehicles and they searched specifically for “vehicles for sale”, your website would be among the first few results.

What Matters in Ranking?

The second question that gets asked frequently in terms of search engine optimization is “what matters in the algorithm, and how can I rank better?”. The good news is that this question is relatively easy to answer, since we know exactly what influences your ranking.

The first metric that Google’s algorithm uses is authority, which can be described as the “popularity” of a website. In other words, Google assumes that if a website or page is incredibly popular, then the content that it is producing is valuable, which could be a result of links on other websites that link back to yours, as well as links that are on your website that link to other sites. The second most important metric that Google’s algorithm uses to determine your place in the rankings is relevancy.

Consider for a minute that the purpose of Google is to provide its users with accurate and up-to-date information. If your website is doing this, it will rise in the rankings. Regardless, this is why many digital marketing companies, such as cozab.com, are now focusing on a more content-driven marketing approach to organically raise the rankings of your website.

3 Tips to Improve Ranking:

1. Backlinking

As mentioned above, one of the ways that you can increase the authority of your website is by having backlinks to other websites. If you are not familiar with what this term means, a backlink is a link on another website that links back to your website.

A word of caution though, you should not just leave the link of your website on as many websites as you can without first doing proper research into the site. You should treat backlinks like a currency, since they do hold a lot of value.

2. Site Design

The next thing that you should consider if you are hoping to increase your rankings is the design of your site. One of the most important things that the design of your site will affect is the bounce rate. The bounce rate is the percentage of people that leave your website within a few seconds of it has loaded.

If your bounce rate is high, this is a signal to Google that something is wrong. Google might assume that the content that you are producing does not match the title of the article, for example, or that the design of your website is too complicated to use, doesn’t make sense, is untidy, and more.

3. Stickiness

In early the last tip on this list, which is not the least of the many things that you can do to improve your ranking, is to make your website sticky. A sticky website is essentially a website that has been designed in such a way to influence the visitor to stick around.

The primary way of making a website sticky is by producing entertaining or relevant content. More than this, you could for example have a static navigational bar that follows the reader as they scroll down the website, making it easier to traverse the site, which increases the probability that the reader will stay.
