PepsiCo began rethinking its branding strategy over the last few years, focusing on consumer research to identify the most popular logos from its past. The company found that focus groups liked the logos from the ’70s and ’80s, which featured the word “Pepsi” inside a globe. “The challenge was how can we take something that was part of our heritage and our past and project it to the present and the future,” said Todd Kaplan, the chief marketing officer of Pepsi.

The Pepsi-New Logo features a richer “electric” blue and black color scheme, which will be used across the company’s product portfolio. PepsiCo believes that the updated colors will bring “a contemporary edge” to the brand’s image.

In addition to cans and packaging, the new logo will also be used in artistic renditions on merchandise and delivery trucks. The logo’s design lends itself well to vibrant animations in video and online, according to Porcini. The unveiling video showcases the new logo and cans radiating waves of energy, sound, and lights.

The updated logo is part of PepsiCo’s larger effort to modernize its branding and stay relevant to consumers. By combining elements of its classic branding with a contemporary color scheme, the company hopes to attract a new generation of consumers while remaining true to its heritage.
